How do I advertise my hypnotherapy business?

Updated: Apr 2

The first step to advertise your hypnotherapy business is to understand how to make money in any business.

How do I advertise my hypnotherapy business?

There are only two steps that you’re ever taking when you make money in your hypnotherapy business.

That’s by creating an offer and driving traffic to it. And when you understand this, it allows you to inject cash into your business.

When you advertise your hypnotherapy business, you need a product or service, which is your offer. And you need to connect with the people who want what you're offering, which is driving traffic to your offer. This connection is made through marketing and messaging.

The purpose of your marketing is to attract, nurture, or convert your audience.

And when you build an audience of potential clients, you can nurture those who are interested, and convert them into paying clients. This cycle—growing (or attracting), nurturing, and monetizing—is at the core of making money in any business.

Your offer can be a paid offer or a free offer, such as a free guide, audio, training, or discovery session. You need to make sure your offer or service is something your ideal client would want and solves a hair on fire problem.

Once you determine your offer, free or paid, you’ll then need to drive traffic to it. This is how you’ll advertise your hypnotherapy business.

Advertise Hypnotherapy Business

Here are the different traffic sources you can use:

Directories and testimonials:

List your business on as many relevant directory sites as possible, and then work to get testimonials for these directory sites. This is money in the bank. It’s best to ask your clients for testimonials when you’ve earned it, and then ask them to search for your business on the directory site instead of sending them a link. This will keep the directory from removing the testimonial (like Yelp).

Direct outreach:

This is my preferred method of driving traffic. It puts you in the driver's seat even if there’s algorithm changes or you don’t have a list. You can locate your ideal clients and reach out to them directly.

This works for cold or warm traffic. Here are a couple of templates to get you started.

(Warm Traffic)

Subject: Thought of you...

Hi (name)!

Hope all is well! I wanted to reach out to you personally because I think this is something you might be interested in.

I’ve just created a special program/session that I’m really excited about. I’ve created a brand new way to work with my clients so that they can (insert results of your program).

The best part is, working in this way creates forward movement very quickly!

When I designed this special program/session, I had you in mind.

Is this something you'd like to hear more about?

Sincerely,

(Your name)

(Cold Traffic)

Private message outreach script for niche groups where your ideal client is:

Hi (name)! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to reach out because I noticed that you may be struggling with (what they said they were struggling with) when you commented in (the group you’re both in).

I don’t mean to be forward, it’s just that this is something I’ve successfully helped my clients with, so that’s why I’m reaching out today. 😊

Would you be interested in exploring how to overcome (the problem they said they have)?

(If they respond yes, move them to a phone call to discuss your program or session. Here’s a free resource to help you with your sales calls - no opt in required)

SEO for your website:

SEO is always changing but you can do on page SEO for your website so you’ll rank and attract your ideal clients with your messaging.

Here’s some steps you can take:

Research long tail keywords that have low competition with low search volume that are relevant to your target market. When you find these search terms in Google Keyword Planner, take note that just because it says there’s not much search volume doesn’t mean people aren’t using the search terms, and it will help you rank when you don’t have much domain authority.

Then use the search term in your title tag, url, and meta description. Also use it in your H1 tag, and paragraphs when appropriate. Be sure to get it in your first paragraph. You can also use adjacent search terms in your other tags - H2, H3, and so on.

Then you can go onto “Also Asked” to research what people in your niche are asking about regarding the problem/desire they have. From there you can write articles that answer their question and link the article pages to a main page on your website. This will help your website rank more easily and serve your potential client.

Speaking:

You can speak locally or online. Facebook lives are free and you can speak anytime you want.

Create a community of your ideal clients:

You can create an online group through many social media platforms. Just be mindful that you’re attracting people that fit your ideal client persona, even if that means you have a smaller group. Some social media platforms allow you to ask questions upon entry, like Facebook. If this is the case you can ask if the person is looking for help with the problem you solve for one of the questions. If so, you can reach out to them and invite them to a free discovery call or you can offer them something of value.

Telesummits:

A telesummit is an online event where guest experts participate in live webinars or interactive presentations. Entrepreneurs, coaches, consultants, and marketers often use telesummits to grow their audience and brand, and so can you.

You can be a guest on a telesummit or host your own. Heads up! They are a lot of work, so what you may want to do initially is have a virtual assistant find telesummits for you to reach out to, to see if you can be a guest. You’ll need to have a free offer you can provide to the listeners.

Giveaways:

A giveaway is an online event where guest experts offer a high value gift in exchange for an email address. It’s a bribe that’s a win-win for everyone involved.

You can host your own giveaway or you can hire a virtual assistant to help you find giveaways you can reach out to, to see if you can be a guest. Like a telesummit, giveaways are a lot of work to host, so keep in mind that it may be helpful to hire a virtual assistant to help you build out the necessary pages.

When you’re approached to be a guest, or you’re reaching out to be a guest for either a telesummit or a giveaway, there’s usually a minimum email list size to be considered as a guest. If you don’t have a big list, then it may be a great idea to host your own.

Referral partners:

Have you ever considered borrowing someone else's audience? When you approach potential referral partners who serve your target audience, it can be an instant boost to your business. You’ll want to make sure that your service doesn’t directly compete with theirs. You can offer a commission split or cross refer. And remember to ask your happy clients for referrals whenever it makes sense.

Meetups and other events:

When you host a meetup or other in person event, you’ll be positioned as the expert. Your in person event can be free or paid, and you can build relationships or directly invite your potential clients to the next step.

Traditional networking:

Want to throw yourself off a bridge? Me too. But if you’re the kind of person who’s outgoing and likes to network, this can be a great avenue to form relationships and sign on new clients. But you’ll need to make sure you’re networking with the right people who can refer your ideal client to you or you’re just wasting your time.

Attend Conferences or Sponsor live events:

You can make great connections and offer value to potential clients and referral partners.

Direct mail:

Think direct mail is dead? Think again. There’s a saying in marketing to do the opposite of what everyone else is doing. I completely agree because attention is the new capital. How many emails do you have in your inbox right now? If you can get the address of your ideal clients, this may be a good avenue to get in touch and offer value when it makes sense.

Paid advertising:

Paid advertising can be advantageous, but you’ll want to make sure you have money coming in before you embark on this endeavor. For example, with Facebook advertising, you typically need to have at least a thousand dollars to test your campaigns with.

Podcast interviews:

Podcast interviews are great because you can gain publicity and grow your email list by offering a high value gift. From there you can invite your potential client to a discovery call in your phone call funnel.

Email marketing:

You can use your existing email list and have a cart open, cart close style launch for your program or service. It can be as simple as sending a series of 5 emails letting your list know that you have open enrollment and enrollment will close when you sign up x number of clients or by a specific date, whichever comes first.

You can offer bonuses along the way to incentivize your ideal clients to join.

Here’s what traffic sources to avoid in your hypnotherapy business:

How to grow hypnotherapy business

Bark, Groupon, Thumbtack, and the like. These traffic sources are typically low quality and the leads are usually looking for a bargain. Plus they don’t typically have a sense of urgency to solve their problem.

So these are some ways that you can drive traffic to your offer, free or paid.

Of course none of this matters if you don’t attract the right kind of client with your messaging, you don’t have an offer they want, or you don’t know how to have a sales conversation.

And when you want to charge premium prices, this becomes even more important.

If you're an experienced hypnotherapist and you consistently get your clients great results, you’re positioned to charge $2,500 to $25,000 to reflect the real transformation you provide your clients.
